2019 911 GT3 RS Is a Less Hardcore Track-Focused Machine

When compared to the 992-gen model, anyway.

Still Great

Following the reveal of the brand new, 992 generation 911 GT3 RS, it became immediately clear that Porsche has been hard at work making its track-focused machine faster and more hardcore than ever. It also makes the previous-gen version look a bit tame by comparison, even though it remains a glorious machine many of us covet. That much is clear by the result of this 2019 model, which managed to rake in good money when it crossed the block at Bring a Trailer recently.

Aging Gracefully

The 991.2 gen 911 GT3 RS is no slouch, mind you, nor was it inexpensive by anyone's standards. In fact, the car started at $190,050 when it was new, and this one sold for an impressive $253,000 - a bit of a premium over its MSRP of $205,200. But then again, these cars seem destined to age quite gracefully.

Weight Savings

This particular car has just 1,900 miles on the clock, and as a result, looks showroom fresh. The clean white beauty has all the go-fast goodies that make these cars so amazing as well, including a lightweight magnesium roof panel, aluminum doors, a manually adjustable rear wing, and a carbon-fiber trunk lid, engine cover, and front fenders.

Interior Amenities

The same goes for the interior, which features power-adjustable full carbon-fiber seats trimmed in black leather with Alcantara inserts, GT Silver stitching, and GT3 RS-embroidered headrests, along with carbon-fiber trim, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation, and a Bose sound system.

Heart of the Beast

The heart of the GT3 RS, however, is its heart - Porsche's glorious naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, which was originally rated to produce 520 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

Other Goodies

The track theme continues with a serious set of rolling stock - staggered 20- and 21-inch center-lock alloy wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires measuring 265/35 up front and 325/30 at the rear. A set of cross-drilled and ventilated disc hides underneath, while a front-axle lift system helps clear speed bumps and steep driveways.

Still Great

Even though it's effectively been upstaged by the 992 model, the 991.2 GT3 RS is still a truly special machine, and this is one fine example of that breed. For many, it's still going to be a plenty capable track vehicle if they desire, but we imagine this one may just wind up being preserved as a collectible instead.
