If you have to ask…

You can’t afford it. These cars are insanely expensive. We’re talking about 356s that were made to appeal to an emerging American market that saw super limited production numbers. Prices now average around $340,000 with exclusive models soaring into a stratospheric $600,000 and beyond.

Bring it back down

When you remember the story behind this car, it’s easy to understand why they are so coveted. To make a long story short, the Continental name was the property of Ford and they ended up going to court over it. Porsche lost and had to change the name. As such, there are limited numbers of this model, which always mean Porschephiles are eager when one comes up for sale. But are they any good to drive?

History lesson

To understand how good these cars were, you should stop and consider the best offering from America at the time was something like the C1 Corvette. A 356 Continental was not only 1,000 lbs lighter but had a 1,582cc engine that was capable of taking the car to a top speed of 100mph. On mountain roads, this car would have been extremely capable in the right hands.

One of the Good Ones

Something about the 356 Continental does make sense from a marketing standpoint as well as an aesthetic point of view. Specific examples of them can be seen with options that are drool worthy. Especially the interiors like the one seen here. No explanation is required.

Porsche Perfect

The 356 Continental represents a time in America where the automotive enthusiast was getting a bit of a palette when it came to purchasing a cutting-edge sports car. You no longer had to buy something that looked bland or handled poorly. Porsche was off to the races (quite literally) after this car exploded onto the market. They are truly timeless classics. Hope you enjoyed.
