Moment of truth. Warning lights on and some good news - oil pressure gauge no longer pinned at 5 as soon as the ignition switch is turned to power it. Guess that was a defect in the old foil, though well see if it actually shows pressure when the engine is running (too late to test that tonight). The bad news is the cluster lights still don't illuminate, so that problem was evidently not the ignition switch. No interior lights in anything and the dimmer is bypassed if anyone has ideas.
