As you work on the hose, its internal threads will break. If the hose is really old the outside will crumble off leaving a tough matrix of threads behind. Use additional very judicious X-Acto cuts here if needed (and face the sharp end of the blade up, cut from the inside out). I needed to do this on a few injectors, the others came off in one piece with enough encouragement.
