I just got a set of 17" 996 10 spoke wheels and, while I have been told that they fit, I dont know if I need a spacer/what size a spacer I need to fit them on an 88' 944. Also, will 235s fit in the front of a NA 944?

The should mount up with out a problem you have a late offset 944 52 mm, and the offsets of the 996 are just around there as well, I would mount them up with out spacers and see how they fit first, you may need a small spacer to bring them out a litte bit, but you should be fine.

And yes 235's will fit on the front with out issue.
