Yes, they should fit. The 968, which has essentially the same bodywork, used 17" wheels of similar sizes.

7.5" x 17" - ET65
9" x 17" - ET55

As you can see, the rear wheel is the same size. The front 993 wheel will stick out about 3 mm which should be OK. To be 100% sure, one should test fit these with tires.

Wheels Probably Won't Fit
 
If these wheels are off a 993 they will not fit on a 1986 944. The offset for the 1986 944 is 23mm (front and back) I believe. Therefore the guy who wants to purchase your wheels is going to have to run spacers to use these wheels.

iborroel is correct, spacers will be needed to run these or the suspension would have to be updated to 87 and up specs.

itll work for an 87 but not an 86

Will 996 wheels fit an 87 or newer 944/951???

The wheels say right on em '55' next to the rim width, 7 and 9.
