Wheel spacer question.

I swapped out my stock 17" wheels and tires from my 1991 turbo 911 today. I put on a set of 18" factory twin turbo hollow spoke wheels and 225/40 zr 18's up front and 295/30 ZR 18's out back. The fronts look OK. The rear wheels stick out past the fender maybe an inch and a half. Seems to have enough clearance not to scrape. Now the original wheels had spacers front and back which I left on. Should I remove these buy different spacers or am I OK just like it is? Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Joe,

I would not drive anywhere with the tire sticking out past the fender - that's an accident looking for a place to happen. You may just be able to remove the rear spacer, and see how everything fits. Do you know what the offset is on your 17" rear rims and the 18" rear rims? Should be on the front or rear of the wheels. Sounds like the 18's may be numerically lower than the 17's you replaced.

Thanks for the help, Bill! My 17" wheels each had 55 mm offset. The 18" front has 52 mm offset, so that's really close to the old offset. The 18" new rear has a 65 mm offset. I guess I'll try and remove the spacers and see what happens.

The rears should fit within the fender without the spacer. However, I would make sure the "inside" of the wheel clears the oil line on the right rear. What size is the spacer?
