Wheel/ tire size
What is the largest tire size (without rubbing) you would recommend for a 82 911SC with stock 7&8x16 Fuchs? Can I use wheel spacers to add a little width? What size? Or, should I buy a pair of 9x16's for the rear and use the 8x16's for the front?
Thanks. ccoleymd@yahoo.com |
If you are going to keep those wheels and do not want to do extensive lip work, stick w/ 205/55 and 225/50. Much larger can fit, At the front I have used 225/50x16 on +23.3 mm 8s and currently have 235/45x17 on 8s but both will require a lot of lip shaving.
If you want a bigger 16 in the back, get some 9x16 and use 245/45x16 tires. They will fit w/o any issues. Again much larger sizes can be fitted if you are willing to do more work, I currently have 275/40x17 on 9.5s, but it wasn't easy. By the way stock '82 SC came w/ 6 & 7, check to see what you have. The 930s from that year did come w/ 7 & 8 911 rear 8x16 have a +10.6mm o/s and will not work on the front of an SC at all. To summarize the most painless fitment is +23/.3mm 7x16 Fuchs w/205/55 front and 9x16 +15mm o/s Fuchs rear w/ 245/45 there are 2 versions of the 7s both have the same +23.3mm o/s, 1) 911 version 2) 944 version wither will work fine at the front there are also 2 versions odf the 8s 1) 911 has +10.6mm os and only works at the rear of an SC 2) 944 has +23.3mm o/s and can be used at the front of an SC |

Thank you for the input. Let me be clear.
Can I use my rear wheels (I guess they are 7's instead of 8's) on the front with your recommended tire selection, and buy some 9's for the rear? Do I have to buy these separate spacers? Thanks. Chris |
Can I use my rear wheels (I guess they are 7's instead of 8's) on the front buy some 9's for the rear? Do I have to buy these separate spacers? If you have bigger Brembo brakes and the 911 7s you would need a small clearance spacer, the 944 7s are better in this regard. But for stock brakes no spacers!! |
