Default Weld-repair on autoX/DE wheel?

Guys - I recently found out that there was a crack (about one inch long) in the lip of my forged clubsport wheel (89 944 turboS wheel), most likely damaged during dismounting a tire at some point. I had a fabricator who has a motorsports background evaluate the damage and assess the possibility of welding up the crack to make the wheel useable.

After welding, he feels good about the strength and safety of the wheel, and I'm inclined to agree, due to his experience and quality of workmanship.

however, I wanted to get a sense on the attitude of those of you who may have been faced with this decision in the past - I am going to use the wheel for autoX and possibly DE in the future, running A032R or similar.

I've been waiting to hear about someone's experience with welded forged alloy wheels too.
