Tire size question
I'm still new to this game...thanks for your patience and understanding
My 87 944 has 15 inch phone dials. I'm told the correct tire size is 215 60R 15.
For what ever reason the P/O put on 225 x 60R 15 tires. A little wider... and (yuck) a little 'taller'. Obviously the car can handle this bigger tire without any adverse conditions.
So, given all of this, here's the quesions:
1. If I were to upgrade to 16 inch wheels, phone dials or other wheels (more tire selection with 16 inchers'), what would be the acceptable tire size? Can I stick with a 225 but drop to a 55R or even 50 R to keep the circumference the same?
2. Is there a low profile tire that works nicely with the 15 inch phone dials?
Any information would be appreciated.

Here are the two sites I used to calculate my tire sizes when I upgraded from 16" to 17" wheels. The sites will work for any size.

The proper-diameter sizes would be 225/55-15 and 245/50-15. But neither are available in any variety.
Go for a set of 16x7/8 PhoneDials off an '87+ 951. They can be had for less than $400 a set. Then use the TurboS tire sizes of 225/50-16 and 245/45-16.
