Post Factory vs Replica

Does anyone know the wieght differences between (17inch)factory cup2 wheels and the Replicas? How about the weight of the stock 16 inch 968 wheels? Thanks for any info you can give.

The replicas are heavier and supposedly not as well made. The guy who is in charge of the local PCA DE's told me he's seen replica rims fail at the track. For the price of new replicas, you can buy OEM rims off ebay. I bought a set of 996 wheels with almost brand new tires for about $800 last year, so that's the route I would recommend.

I have to agree that replicas are not a good idea to go with.Ebay is the best source to get used wheels..

So : replicas ?

I bought 17" Cup II's for the track because they are light, approx. 19 F and 22 R. I've heard similar concerns about replica weight and failure under stress (like at the track), so the Factory alloys were my preference.

Bought mine off eBay for $700 without tires ( ) but that was fine since I needed to get R compounds anyway. You can find some great deals on takeoffs and people looking to upgrade to a larger size, i.e. 993 drivers, so there's a ton to choose from. The PCA Mart and Wheel Enhancement are good sources for quality used wheels as well.

I've heard numbers of 4-5lbs heavier than the genuine Porsche wheels.
