Modify to fit
All,
First, what size tire would fit on a 16 x 8 Fuchs wheel?
Second, I have a 1988 911 Couple with standard ride height front and back. Currently, I have 16 X 6 on the front and 7 on the rear. I know I would need to roll the lip if I move to a set of 16 X 9 Fuchs to the rear. But, would I need to modify to fit the 16 x 8 Fuchs wheels?
Thanks for the help
Paul

There is a lot of room at the back of an SC/Carrera. My lowered Carrera required no mods to lips with 9x16 and 245/45 tires, only minor lip mods with 9.5x17 and 275/40 tires.
The front is much more of a problem, on my car 8x16 fit fine with 225/50 tires but an awful large number of folks have reported issues with even 7x16 and 205/55
At the front 7x16 +23.3 mm os Fuchs with 205/55 tires would be the safest move. At the back 8x16, +10.6mm os with 225/50 or 9x16, +15mm os with 245/45 are best.

Just to reiterate Bill's good advice. You should not need to roll the fender lip on the rears to fit 9x16 Fuchs. I also had them on my 81SC with 245/45x16, which fit very nicely. Before I fit the 9's, I had 8x16 Fuchs with 225 tires, and they fit just fine too. I also ran 7x16's on the front with 205's and didn't have any problems.

I had a '81 911SC with 3 piece BBS 16 x 7 and 8's with 245-45-16's on the rear, with no clearance problems. On the front were 225-50-16 and I had a clearance problem mainly with my left front fender lip. Had to roll it in order to clear. Otherwise it worked nicly and gave more rubber to the ground.
