964 wheels - offset guide for new Porsche wheels
 

I would like to get new (used) wheels for my RS America, and convert the stock 17-inch "Cup 1" style wheels (which are NOT the same as the 993 "Cup" wheels) to "track" wheels. From what I have discovered in this forum, I need would need 17-inch wheels with a 52.3mm offset.

Fine.

However, what I can't seem to figure out is... What, if any, newer Porsche wheels share this same offset?

It would be nice to "upgrade" the look of my new wheels to that of a newer Porsche, but I don't know if any of the newer Porsches use the same 52.3mm offset with their 17-inch wheel options. Are there? Is there a guide out there that shows all of the offsets for stock Porsche wheels?

I would prefer to buy used Porsche wheels because the aftermarket options for our cars are very, very, very expensive.

Where did you get the 52.3 mm offset from? That number was used on some 16" wheels used on the 964's.

The RS America came with:

7" x 17" ET55
8" x 17" ET52

You can use any newer style 17" wheels from either the 993 or the 996 on the car as follows:

7" x 17" ET55
9" x 17" ET55

Viken, do you happen to know which wheels from the 993 and 996 line had those 55mm offsets? I was under the impression that the "Cup 2" wheels from the 993 had a very different offset. No?

There were some wheels with an offset of 70 but avoid those. As long as you go for around 55 offset and the widths as described by Viken, you will be OK.

All factory 17" wheels installed on the 993 and the 996 were the same sizes and offsets as described above. Those include:

That is correct. The Cup Design '93 wheels were available with various different offsets. But, the ET55's are the ones you are looking for.

That is VERY helpful information.

I was hoping to go with a slightly wider 17-inch wheel, such that I could put at least 225's in the front and possibly 265 or 275's in the rear. I believe that 8-inch fronts and 9.5-inch rears might be ideal for this purpose (?).

Do any of the wheels that you identified have widths such as these? I am finding that most of the used wheels I come across have the 7-inch fronts that I am trying to avoid.

1- 964 Cup Design Wheel:

965.362.124.15 - 7.5" x 17" - ET55
965.362.126.01 - 8" x 17" - ET52
965.362.128.10 - 9" x 17" - ET55
965.362.128.05 - 9.5" x 17" - ET55

2- 993 Cup Design '93 Wheel:

993.362.124.05 - 7.5" x 17" - ET65 (might need spacer)
993.362.126.00 - 8" x 17" - ET52
993.362.128.00 - 9" x 17" - ET55

There was no 9.5" wheel offered in the Cup Design '93 style.

You can go to 225 on a 7 inch wheel, but 7.5 would probably be best for you, if you can find some.

This wheel you are referring to is the original one piece Speedline wheel used on the Euro Carrera Cup race cars. It's offset is 68mm and it requires the use of a 23mm spacer and longer rear studs. Carrera Cups have these longer studs installed.

You are correct. I mistyped the offset.

Someone brought up an interesting option. I thought I'd run it by you guys to see what you thought of it...

"If you are interested in going wider. Go with the 996 17" twist wheels. These are the Boxster looking ones.

They made a 9" 55mm offset in the rear... and then you could use the Boxster Rears as your fronts. 8.5" 50 mm offset."

So you'd end up with:
Front: 8.5 x 17" - 50mm offset Boxter (rears)
Rear: 9 x 17" - 55mm offset 996 (rears)

Is there are problem with mixing and matching like this?

A half inch differential between front and rear is too small. I would keep at least a 1" difference. Besides, what tire sizes were you thinking of for these wheels?

IMHO, I would stick with:
7.5" / 9"
8" / 8.5"
9" / 10.5"

Anyone know if these would fit on a 1990 C4?
Front: 8x17 ET 56.7
Rear: 9x17 ET 44

The rear offset looks a little odd to me.

Help needed. Looking to purchase a set of 17" Ruf on my 1991 C4 Coupe. The owner had it on his 91 Cab but not sure if this will fit mine. Sizes are: 17X9X6.5, Rear are 17X10 et56.7. Tires are 235/45/17 and 255/40/17. In your opinion will this fit?
