Post What size spacers do I need?

I'm new to 911 ownership and the car I bought has got 17"x7" & 17"x9" (both with an offset of 55mm) Cup 2's with 205/50's & 255/40's on my 1990 C4. I've have noticed that an oil hose under the one of the rear wheel arches has shown signs of being rubbed by the tire, even though I can get my thumb in between the tire & hose. I am considering fitting spacers to stop this problem.

My questions are:

1. What size spacers do I need to fit?
2. If I put spacers on the rear, must I also on the front?
3. The car has not got the "RS" sterring stops fitted. Would fitting spacers on the front do the same thing to stop the tires rubbing when on full lock?

Answers on a postcard please.....

Andy,

According to Porsche, there is no spacer required with the 9" ET55 wheel on the rear of the 964. If you are having rubbing problems, it is likely that the hose has moved and might be relocated from the tire. Another less likely reason could be a slight misalignment of the wheel/tire.

As to the front, if this was not done on your car, you need to change your steering stop washers with part number 964.347.325.02. This is to avoid tire contact with the inner fender liners.

What if I would like to put 7.5"x17 (offset 55) in front of my early (narrow body 1989) C4.

I was told to avoid 7.5" but is it possible ?

Thanks !

The 7.5" Cup wheel with a 55 mm offset is very rare and will work in front of the 964 without a problem. However, the 7.5" Cup wheel with a 65 mm offset which was used on the 928, will only work with a spacer because it would sit 16.4 mm more inwards.

Andy.

I have a 89 C4(964) with 265/35 mounted on 18X10 rear(66mm offset) I have 15mm spacer/adaptor to clear the oil line.

With your 9 inch(55mm offset) wheel, you should be fine. In fact your wheel would be 9mm further away on the inside than mine.

As Viken suggested, check to see that the oil line is in its proper place.

Good luck.
