Post 17x9 & 17x11 tire sizes?

I love these wheels, and I'd love to get them in 17" for my '77 911 widebody targa:

What size tires would one use? In my dream world, I'd get 2 sets; one for track tires and one for street tires.

I'm pretty sure I could run the 11" on the rear, and maybe a 9" on the front. I had 9 & 11 x 15 previously, but since then I've upgraded to turbo brakes. I should still be able to use the 9" wheel, but just with a different offset.

Hi Thom. 255/40-17, 315/35-17. Be careful about the offset, true turbo runnung gear and narrow body running gear on cars with add-on flares will have different offsets.

IMO, the best size tire to use on a 9" rim would be about 255mm wide, as for 11" rims- well, that's two inches wider (50.8mm), so, about 305mm... Not sure at all about the offsets, etc, but the sidewall, would of course, be determined by the RD in relation to the width, if you wanted to match the stock RD to begin with(?)...

The reason I say this is b/c I have a Turbo S w/the stock 16x7 and 16x9 rims- 225/50/16 and 245/45/16. The fronts are filled out fine (maybe even a touch large for the rims), but the rear tires are too small for the rims. That's probably why the 968's wore 225/45/17's on 17x7.5's and 255/40/17's on 17x9's...

You mean like this? Mine are 8.5" and 10" x 17 with 235/40 and 275/35 P.Zero-Cs. I now regret not getting 9" and 11". Make sure you can get the tires you want before going too crazy. I like the P.Zero-Cs but they don't make a size for 9"/11".

Also, I'm not sure I would recommend them for the track. I track mine and I've been breaking the modular bolts all summer - very scary! They gave me lots of replacements but those kept breaking too. Ultimately I replaced them all with aircraft bolts and havn't had a problem since.

Lessons learned? Smartire tire pressure sensors really do work. Twice this year, the sensors told me I was losing air before I got into trouble. I was running 40psi before the alarm went off. By the time I got back to the pits, I was at 15psi. What do you suppose would happen if I didn't know? You can get them at tirerack.com

P.S. I ordered the wheels last May and got them last August. If you want them, order them now. They're custom and aren't ordered very often. Also, you should probably order from the manufacturer HRE (hrewheels.com) to save time.
