Wheels to fit a '91 944S2?

I just got a '91 Porsche 944S2 that currently has what I believe are the factory wheels. They're 7x16 (I think) with 205/55-16 tires on them in the front. Rears are 8x16 (again, I think) 225/50-16. The dealer told me the offset is 52.3mm for all wheels, but they didn't know the bolt pattern.

With that said, I'm looking for a set of wheels so I can have a set for summer and winter. Could you tell me what offsets and bolt patterns I need?

Would 17" wheels improve performance much?
I've heard several people liking 17" tires on this car.

Bryan,
Your offset is as follows:
55mm front and 52.3mm rear. I have a 91 S2 Cabriolet. I would recommend keeping your stock rims for winter driving and upgrade to 17's for the warm season. Standard 996, 993, and Boxster rims will fit our cars w/o the need for spacers. Robert Wood at WheelEnhancement.com said that occasionally the 996 C4 rims require a 1/4" spacer so the front hub (grease cap) clears the center of the rim. Other than that, most late model "standard" offerings are a straight bolt on application.

As for aftermarket rims, most can be ordered in custom offsets so it really isn't an issue. I would try to avoid most of the 'replica' wheels as they are usually or lesser quality than the factory wheels and much heavier. Of course this is only what I've heard. I am planning on upgrading to 17's after my current tires wear out. I will either go with factory 17's or high quality aftermarket (HRE, Fiske, Kinesis, RH, OZ or something like that).
I hope this helps.

Regards,
Max

I'm lookiing at a set of wheels on Ebay and they look exactly like my current wheels. There're item # 593050133 and the ad says this:

Stock Porsche C2 wheels and Pirelli P-700Z tires (2- 225/50-ZR16 & 2- 205/55-ZR16). Tires have approx. 15,000 miles. Wheels are in execellent condition.

Does anyone know if this is the same as the C2 Turbo wheels?

They're from a '90 cab (911 or 944, not sure) so I think they'll fit my '91 944S2.

Wheels certainly aren't as simple as they look!

thanks,
Bryan

Bryan,

I would not buy any 911 C2 Design 90 wheels for your S2. The C2 used 6x16s on the front and they are virtually worthless on a 944.

I would highly recommend keeping your stock wheels for Winter use and getting a set of new car takeoff 17s for summer use. This is far and away the best solution for the money... assuming you can spend about $1300. Talk to Joe Gonzalez in parts at The Collection

I'm using 996 wheels on my 944 S2 and there are pictures on my web site.

They are the same style - Design 90s as they're called.

The wheel sizes are probably 6Jx16 & 7.5Jx16, that's different from your 944 S2..

Thanks, everyone! It sounds like I'd be much better off just buying wheels specifically for my car. 17" wheels for summer sound fine, or maybe 16" steel wheels (less corrosion due to salt on roads) for winter use. I'm trying to attend the Tweeks festival in Illinois on the 21st, so maybe the markets there will have things at good prices.
