New 993 and Rennlist member! Need front tire recommendation

I've spent the past year dreaming about buying a 911, and lurked on this board often. Thanks for all the tips! I finally pulled the trigger 2 days ago and bought a polar silver/grey 95 C2, 44K miles. <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" /> For those interested, I paid 36K from a private party in Oregon and had the PPI done by Stuttgard. I'll post a picture once I figure out how.

Unfortunately the front tires - Dunlop SP 8000s - 17" -need to be replaced very soon. The rears were replaced @ 33K (11K miles ago) also with SP 8000s, and probably have another 5-10K left on them.

What tires are recommended? In researching, it appears that Bridgestone S03's are the preferred tire, but Dunlop SP 9000's have also been highly praised. Is there a problem having different tires on the front vs. the rear? If so, what should I do?

I'm a fairly aggressive driver and will be attending PCCA Drivers Ed next month to maximize my enjoyment. Yeeeeha!

Based on Rennlist posts, I will also be shelling out the full $400 for a Valentine 1 radar detector.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure you'll find many different recommendations over on the 993 board.
For me, I've tried Bridgestones, Pirreli and Continental. Didn't like Conti. much, Pirreli was great, the best of all three I think. Very sticky, and stable, responsive, but didn't last long at all. Bridgestones was much better than Conti, but not as good as Pirreli. It seems to last a bit longer thou. I'm definately going to go for Pirreli next. Like you, when I drive it, I drive it.
Do use the same make of tyres front and back to get the best out of them.
These are only my non-expert, non-scientific impression. I'm not even that good a driver, but boy do I have fun in my car!!!
