993 Cup Wheels on 944

993 Cup Wheels on 944
I have just purchased a set of 7x16 and 9x16 cup wheels for my 944. For the 993, the factory recommended 205/50/16 on front and 245/45/16 on rear.
1. Will these wheels/tires fit on my 88 944 turbo without rubbing or spacers?
2. Is there a better tire "size" combination?
3. I only plan on driving the car about 1k miles per year in the summer.(maybe 1 or 2 track events at PCA) I have researched tires and the Yokohama AVS ES 100 seem to be a great tire for the money.
I currently have Dunlop Sport SP 5000 on vehicle-any comparison?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Best regards,
John

I have great knowledge of the Yoko ES100 (friend is an employee @ Yoko Corp)... Its a fabulous tire. Yoko has given it a SUPER price because they "want some of the market back." Yoko figures it is time to put up or shut up. The price is low, but the product is wonderful. Watch for further price slashing from them on the full line.
The 17 x 7 & 9 set of 993 alloys you purchased will work great. No mods or spacers needed. Go with a 205/50/17 in front & the 255/40/17 rear. If you want to bulk it up, then put a 215 or 225 in front & swing a 265 in the rear. That will safely fit w/ an ES100 (good sidewall curve).
Enjoy. It sounds like your on the right track!

Thanks for your insight and your recommendation. I just want to confirm that my vehicle is a 944 not the 993 thw wheels came from. Does your advice for the tire combo still hold true? My apologies if the answer is "yes"
Thanks again,
John

I put the Yoko AVS ES100's on my Audi and 944 due to the hype. I'm not pleased with either set up. Tires on my A6 are noisy (quattro compensates for the lack of stick) and the AVS' on my 944 for track events B-L-O-W. No one in our club is buying them. Look into the Falken Azenis or Kuhmos if you're running the car hard.
A man with $900 dollars worth of crappy tires.

The wheels will fit fine without spacers. You only need spacers on the early year 944 series (through 1986). I have the 993 Cups on my 951 and I went with 225/45-17 on the fronts and 255/40-17 on the rears. Photo is in the P-Car-Online link in the sig.
