I AM WONDERING IF SOMBODY HAS ANY EXPERIENCE WITH SUBSTITUTING 285/30R18 FOR 295/30R18 AS THE REAR TIRES ON THE CURRENT C4S ?

By increasing the size of the rear tire as you stated, you will have a slightly bigger diameter which might affect the speedometer readout and gear ratios. In addition, more rubber in the rear means more understeer which you may not want. The AWD cars already come with a fair amount of it unless one makes changes to the suspension and alignment.

By all means, go for it. The 285/30 is the correct tire to have on this car.

How are you sure that they are OE? As far as I know, the 285's were original equipment. Have you checked your owner's manual?

It does not. Someone, other than Porsche, had them installed.

YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW ANYTHING AND TRYING TO PRETEND YOU ARE EXPERTS. i BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW ON AUG 2002. IT'S CARRERA 4S 02'MODEL. THE OEM ON 2002 C4S IS 295/30R18. YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRAST NOW! GO CALL YOUR DEALER OR LOOK UP THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE BUT DONT GIVE YOUR "EXPERT ADVISE" WHEN YOU HAVE NO CLUE! <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

Igor Kravchenko, MD:

Sorry that people thought you had an older C4S. I am sure it was an honest mistake since many are usually trying to upsize for looks, etc. I was about to reply since I concluded that you had an 02 C4S when I decided to refresh and realised that you had already seen the responses.

Anyway, to answer your question, I doubt you will find much experience with anyone who has downsized in the rear. The C4S is still a pretty new car with very few numbers being released. In addition, if we assume that most are sold in the Northern hemisphere where it is summer now, the possibility of the 285 being tried on is even lower. In course of time people may try it to reduce understeer OR for winter, etc. though I am not sure if it is approved. At this time your best bet may be the manual or other expert opinions.

Enjoy your car and all the best.

Hey Igor with 4 posts. Lose the caps and write yourself a prozac prescription.

Your initial question wasn't clear. You're the one who should be "EMBARRAST". Especially for asking such a dumb *** question. What are you doing with a $90k sports car anyway if you can't tell the difference between two tire sizes?

“Congratulations!!!! You are todays winner!!!”

In four posts - you have alienated a bunch of folks who have lined up to try to help you out. And you insult all of them. I have a sneaky suspicion you won't be able to post a fifth note in these Forums. But – by your own admission, why would you want to do that?

Good luck to you, your question - and having your Prozac prescription refilled soon...

Oh - and my guess is that you edited your first post to read “CURRENT C4S” rather then just "C4S", after getting responses... Just a guess....
