Question Tire sizes for 15" wheels- strange....

I have 15X7 wheels on the front and 15X8 on the rear of my car. The tires are 215/60R15 all the way around and have always thought this looked kind of funny. Anyone else notice this? After looking online, I found that this is indeed the size tire put on these wheels from the factory.

Why would porsche put the same width tire on wheels that were 1 inch different in width?

What size tire can I put on the rears to increase the width without affecting the height(speedo issues, etc.)?

Thanks

A buddy of mine with a 74 Carrera and 15 x 7/8 uses 245/50-15 Dunlop SP8000 tires on his 8's, and 225/50-15's on the 7's. He has to run 2+ degrees negative camber to avoid rub, but they look great. You can find them at the tire rack. FWIW, a lot of folks running 15 x 7/8 Fuchs use 225/50-15 tires all the way around, with no balance problems.

So, with 225/50-15's I won't have any problems with the speedometer reading incorrectly?

You will get a speedo error. Check out this tire size calculator. A 245 is probably the max you can cram on an 8" wheel. 225 is fine. Check at Tirerack on specific tires. In the spec section they will list min/max wheel sizes for each tire.
