Default New Tires on my Ride?

I have Boxster 17s, 8.5 on the rear and 7 on the front. I only drive it occasionally on the street, usually on the weekends on the twisty roads in the Bay Area. I can't remember the last time I drove it in the rain. That being said, I am looking at getting the Dunlop Star Specs, 225 and 255, because of the review on Tire Rack.

Any other recommendations? What about Falken Azensis?

Right now i have Toyo T1R`s on 16 inch Fuchs 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 and after more than 7000 kms they are a great tire but i upgraded my brakes over the Winter and had to go with 17 inch Fikses due to caliper and rotor clearance.

I too left a few messages to that tire guy and he never replied back to me.I wanted to buy some 17 inch wheels this Winter and i ended up buying them elsewhere...

Mac,
My tires should be in tomorrow, can't wait to have them on the car !!!

Cheers !
Phil

I had some Continental tires that weren't all that special. I'm hoping to see a decent improvement with the Dunlops. Also put in ss brakelines, better brake fluid and new street/light track duty pads. My idea of tire and brake upgrade without spending a fortune.

We played phone tag yesterday, at least he called me back, once. Not sure why he wanted to talk to me. I was hoping he was going to offer me some kind of discount. There is already a mail-in $50 rebate on them if you get them by 4/1.

Any news on how they feel on the road Mac? What kind of Porsche do you drive?

I bought the tires yesterday without any correspondence from Damon at Tirerack.

Any initial news on how they ride?

I got my tires installed today, wow they look nice ...
Even the guy at the tire shop was impressed,he admitted they look a lot better in person than in his catalogs since he doesn't sell much Dunlop products.

The installer had a hard time because the beads seemed pretty stiff, almost like mounting a motocross tire !
Still have to bleed my new 996TT brakes and hopefully i'll be on the road by the weekend

Cheers !
Phil

You have to wonder about that Damon guy ... Never replied to me either, they lost me as a potential customer !

Phil,

What I don't understand is why he even asked me to call him about the tires? If he would not have said anything, it would have been better. But to ask me to call him, and then not respond just makes it seem like. . .Oh well. I bought them based on the reviews in the magazines and tire rack's price point. Also, the fact that I have not heard any negative things from users about the tire.

Can't wait to see pics and get your impressions. I won't have any until later this month, my car is going into the shop next week.

Default Dunlop Direzzas

I was able to go for a drive with my new Dunlops today, they are smooth and don't transfer the road harshness back through the wheel like the Michelin Pilots that i had previous to the Toyo T1R's that i had last Summer.

The Toyo's were a great tire but i had to upgrade to 17 inch wheels this year and the Dunlops were cheaper than another set of Toyo's and to be honest,so far i think i like the Dunlops better !
I would recommend them for the price/value aspect as well as the fact that they did well on the Car and Driver tire review.
And the tread looks awesome

Phil
