Tire Sizing for a 9" Rim
Hi All,
I've got 7.5x17 and 9x17 for my 968, the proper rubber sizes are 225/45/17 and 255/40/17. I have some leftover tires with excellent tread from my other car with 225/45/17 and 245/40/17. So the question is, does the 245 make a difference vs the 255? Will it look too narrow on the rim? Thanks for the feedback.

The 10 mm width difference should make a small difference, but I'm not sure that you could tell the difference on the street. I think 255 is an optimal fit for a 9" wheel, and 245 is optimal for a 8.5" wheel. A 245 will work okay on a 9" wheel too, but I'd consider it a little too narrow for a 9.5" wheel. As for the look, consider that there will be 5mm less in tread width on each side. That may not be very noticable (unless you already know about it, which you will). Also the section width difference will probably be only .4" or .5".

You may want to look at the manufacturers specs, as, somehow, one manufacturers 245 may have more rubber on the road than anothers! 245's should work fine on 9's, which is what I used to run on my 911SC, although 245x16's. I believe 9's are about the widest you can fit 245's too.
