Falken tires
 

I went out to Willow Springs (S.O.W) with Redline Track Events and a lot of the boy racers there were running Falken tires and had good things to say about them. They're sold at Big O tire stores and cost less than half of the Pilots I've been using.

Anyone have info/feedback on these tires?

I had a set of Falken Ziex 512's on my previous 944. I thought they were a very good tire especially at the price.
Wet traction was very good. I would buy them again.

The Falken Azenis is very popular with autocrossers in the street tire class, and DE drivers . Very inexpensive, great dry grip, have no idea about wet capabilities, get noisy when worn. All in all a great bargain if they make them in your size.

I was talking to a guy who had Azenis on Saturday at an auto-x (on a Nissan), he said they're so good in the rain that you can drive just like it's dry. He was fast in dry too. It's too bad they don't come in standard Porsche 16" sizes (just 205/55/16, no 225/50 or 245/45/16). I've heard from an extremely reliable source that the Azenis is built by Yokahama as a softer compound 032R and labeled as a Falken.
I'd be tempted to try their Ziez512 for street use, but again I didn't see a 245/45/16 offered. I'll likely try them on my non-porsche next set.

I am considering between the Falken and Yoko's. Are the Felken quiet? i know that they are low profile, but i experience really REALLy noisy Falkens a couple of years ago, and rumours here say that they are noisy, is that true?

I own Pete's old car, and said Falkens (Ziex 512) are getting pretty noisy - high-pitched vibrating noise at freeway speeds. Rears are wearing down quicker than what I am used to on 944s (and I'm babying this car).

On the other hand, they are smooth and stable, predictable and controllable. Grip is decent, and they don't squeal, unlike the Ziex 502s on my Esprit. For the money (TRY VULCANTIRE.COM) you just can't beat the Falkens.

I'll be going back to my old favorite, Dunlop SP 8000, though...
