Check out the "944 Wheels FAQ" on my 951 RacerX website. You have to be very, very careful when measuring the width of a wheel. There are TWO widths on every wheel. Bead-width is what's printed on the wheel (like the picture above), and should never be used to compute offset. Always use the overall-width or outside-width which is from the outside rim-edges, which is typically 0.75-1.25" wider than the 'official' width. This width always has to come from actual measurements. So your your stock 16x7/8" wheels probably measure 7.75 and 8.75" wide on the outside. The optional 16x7/8" Fuchs actually are different widths on the outside than Phone Dials.
