997.1 4 18x9 and 18x12 tire options

hi guys

I ended up ordering a set of BBS wheels from eric at Supreme, he gave me some tire options. I would like to get some input from people who run similar setups on their cars as far as sizes, tire brands, and general thoughts are.

My car right now has a set of 20" Vossen wheels with a 235/295 tire combo.

*quick edit* this is my "nice weather weekend* car not a track/autocross rat (or, at least not yet)

The most important part is making sure the overall diameter ratio between front and rear tires stays the same.

Example is if your difference between front front and rear overall tire diameter is .5” then keep right at that with in a few percent...I think it’s 3 or 4%

so a 997 Carrera on OEM 19” wheels runs 245/35/20 at 25.5” diameter and 295/30/20 26” diameter...305 is alternate rear size at 26.3” overall diameter......so you can have a spread of .5” - .7” and your ABS and PSM will not act up. Anything out side this and the computer will think a wheel is slipping and apply brakes. ...or you ABS will not act correctly in threshold braking.

I know 18” wheels can be fitted on 997 car as that is what I use to run for track wheels....you need 8.5” or 9x18 and 11.5 or 12x18 wheels....245/40/18 and 305/35/18 work great and are the same overall outside diameter as the stock oem sizes.

Your 997 car will handle so much better on 18’s than the 20’s you currently have. The cars suspension geometry was not designed for 20’s

I bought this car with wheels already on it, but it probably wouldn't have been my 1st choice either (the 20's)

its been a while, but any brand suggestions? certain tires run wide or small in these sizes? is it ok to run different brand tires in front and back (something that I was always told was a no-no on AWD/4WD cars)

I was just taken back a little when I read that 305, or even 315, can work, as these are pretty damn wide (then I learned rears now were already 295's with plenty of room)

For 18”...you can run the 245 305 size I mentioned in my post and also 255-35-18 front and 315-30-18 rear....overall diameter is smaller than stock and this gear you down a little for better acceleration but you will have more gap between the tire and fender. I ran this at the track some bit the 245 305 worked better.

Brands....for the track and driving to the track Nitto NT01 are awesome. For a very sporty street tire see if Bridgestone re71 or Yokohama ad08r have the size.
