Default Pirelli v. Michellin for a 991 4S

Hey All,

I'm currently running Pirelli PZero's on my 991 4S Coupe. Overall I'm pretty happy with them but I've heard the Michelin's may be a better ride???

My 991 is my daily driver and may see the track one of these days, but I'm primarily interested in good wear and daily drivability. My primary driving conditions are for heavy and hard street use, when I'm not staring at a sea of brake lights.

Any reco's out there? Pirelli or Michellin?

Cheers,

Nate

Michelin all day long.

In addition to being quieter, having more grip and better handling...

My last Pirelli's only had 3500 miles on them and in <2 years started to dry rot. The dealer put these on to CPO my car. Pirelli's response is 1. buy new Pirelli tires at full retail 2. ship all four tires to us at consumer expense 3. wait and see if Pirelli will provide a credit towards future pirelli purchase dependent on replacing defective tires with their brand.

Needing new shoes soon. Asked my dealer if they had the 4S in stock. They said it’s not Porsche approved. Such crap. As soon as the Michelin 4S are avaliable I’m getting them.

Just have tirerack ship to the dealer or find another shop since this has zero impact on warranty. Pirelli pays a lot of money to be OEM for Porsche. "not being Porsche approved" is a part of the politics that Pirelli pays for.

+1 for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I have six months of mixed street & track use on them - substantially better than PZeros in terms of dry & wet grip, noise, wear.

I had the same issue w the Pirellis where they started dry rotting less than 2 years, w plenty of thread left.

Porsche approved really means nothing. I'd suggest to use the tires you'd like without any worries

Thanks all. Sounds like the Pirelli's are a big thumbs down as I suspected. Maybe we can all go in together and file a class action against Pirelli and get them to pay for a new set of Pilot Sport 4S's for our cars. Lol

The last message from the French is that 4S are coming in 18" next year, to replace the supersport tires.

PS4's all the way for 991. The car came with Pirelli P Zero and they were terrible to say the least. I ran MPSC2 for the track over a couple years however recently ran a set of PS4's as I had plans to trade the car in. My GT3.2 has taken longer than expected and I ended up at several track days with the PS4's at LCMT, Calabogie and Mosport. They are top rated for the road but I was surprised how good they held up at the track. Obviously not as a good as MPSC2 but a great tire that can be used in the rain as well.

Definitely Michelin over Pirelli. Wear rate is much lower on Michelin and in my opinion, they grip much better than the P-Zeros

I know this is an old thread but has anyone seen any additional new tires be used other than the topics tires?? I have a 991 c4s in need of some new tires. Looking for them to be cost effective and provide longevity. Will not be track used so just the normal pothole avoiding drive.. Any ideas guys

Bump.

Am in same boat with my 997. I have Pirellis and am not overjoyed with them and have also heard so much good about Michelins,so I looked for threads like this, some a few years old.

Pirelli PZero has more ultimate grip than the current Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. That's it. Michelin wins the rest of the comparisons. It is quieter, longer lasting, and better in the wet.

Personal opinion since I competed on the Michelin 4S during One Lap of America, Michelin 4S would be my choice.

+1 Michelin over Pirelli

By far the Pilot Sport are best for a 911, which I've had on my 993, 997 and 991.

I am about to install new tires that have been in my shed for a year now. I had issues finding 1 damaged rim, then the right TPMS and now deciding on the power coated rim color. Thinking grey, gold or bright silver for a blue 991 S.

wondering if you think these are the right tires for the car. I already have them so trying them is the best way to know for sure. However if I can avoid installing and then trying to sell em I prefer that.
