Front, roof and wing .. I need to get the rocker panels and the wheel arches on the rear done, the original owner didn't wrap and they can nailed on the wide body.

I made an appointment with them for Monday am. I guess I'll be the guinea pig lol. Just for a basic wash though, my car is already wrapped.

Good luck with Autobody. They look promising. I took my car down to LA to have work done. It's beautiful but a long way to go. I do most of my own maintenance but would be interested to see the results. We need some good places in SF.

So, I couldn't wait until Monday to clean it, I had all sorts of dirt, bugs, rubber that needed to be cleaned off, so decided to do it the normal way and was it myself.

I first hit up the Self Service Car Wash on Geary and threw in $10 to clean off the obvious dirt and bugs. I spent most of my time here, only 1 of the bays is working, long line up and people that like to detail/dry their car in the wash booth. A guy in an M3 came to oogle at the P-Car (that's always fun).

Then went home to my apartment (San Francisco) and figured if people can wash their dogs in the garage then I can wash my car. Will wait for an HOA complaint but most of the people that went by had young boys that also oogled the car and more Porsche dreams were started for the next generation.

I first hit it with some to get rid of all the rubber from last weekend and then used some (two bucked, one section at a time, 3 x mirro fiber mit (top, bottoms and wheels). I was very impressed with both. The R3 just sprayed on, wait 30 seconds and then wipe off, the rubber came off with ease and no rubbing. The ONR was impressive too, I was skeptical at first but the results were pretty amazing for my first time using the products.

What could I do better next time ..

• Roller seat - My old man back is killing me and being able to sit for the low reach would have save me some Advil
• A cart for the buckets as well - same reason as above
• Wheel cleaner
• Windex .. have to figure out how to get to the back window of the GT3 with the LWB's

All up it probably took me about 45 mins of work (not including wait time at the car wash or drive between then)

@iphilips - looks like a good drive. Those are some of my go-to's. San Antonio is a nice rip, especially the blast along the highway. Next time I would recommend 101 > Lucas Valley > Right on Nicassio Valley > Right on Pt Reyes Petaluma > Left on Hicks Valley > Right on Wilson Hill > and either left on Chileno Valley for a stop at Hogs Island or keep going straight to the cut through on Windsor Dr and right on D st, but instead of taking San Antonio go straight on Red Hill and take a left on Novato Blvd.

And yes, Bodega can get jammed up with traffic. Wayne and David showed me a much better route through Freestone to Jenner. Take Freestone Valley Ford and stop at the Wild Flour Bakery (its amazing) and then drive up the Bohemian Hwy to 116 and go to Jenner. The 1 north after that is amazing.

@FourT6and2 - we hit it yesterday. We did a great loop to Pope Valley back to Lake Hennessy then back to 128. Much better than driving through Napa traffic, especially on race day. We did pass a few cops along Knocksville Rd, as well as one right at the intersection of 121 and 128 announcing his presence. I think they are stepping it up out there on weekends. Not much traffic going up but you get a lot of trucks hauling boats on narrow roads as the day progresses. Can get a bit sketchy combined with packs of motorcycles. In the future I will only go weekdays or early AM.

Yeah I was up there early Saturday morning. Around 7:30 maybe. And yes, lots of trucks towing boats. But overall not a bad drive that early. Weekdays will probably be better. I saw one cop on the road, going in the opposite direction. Luckily I was behind a slow driver at that time haha...

Freestone -> Jenner

Also, I'm going to be in Healdsburg tomorrow (it's my b'day and the better half is taking me to Napa for a couple of days), what do you recommend to get up and back from SF <-> Healdsburg. Stay east of 101, west of 128/29, cross between both of those? She is thinking it will be a quick 1 hour drive up 101 hahahah.

@iphilips - re the hicks valley route, no don't go that way unless you are taking a Land Rover instead of the GT3. Its a very pretty route but the road is ****. Here is the route you should take:



Hicks and Chileno are still rough roads but they are worth it. I'm lowered on Eibachs and only scrape in one turn on Chileno. You should be ok in the GT3.

For Jenner - yes thats the route. The 1 north of that is awesome too. Wayne and David took me on an epic 10hr drive to Point Arena last year.


For Healdsburg, I dont know the roads between Napa and Santa Rosa as well. I would think your wife would like a drive up 29 to Napa and then cut over on 128. I would think you would prefer 80 to Suisin Valley to 121 to 128 and then over...but that would more be like 2.5hrs. But its your birthday!
