Default Selling a CA car to a friend in TX

My understanding is that I merely have to sign over the title and provide a bill of sale, and my friend will be able to transfer the title to a Texas one without a problem, no smog test necessary as TX has different regulations (safety check). Anyone have experience selling a car in CA to an out of state buyer? Is the signed over title enough? Do we have to do anything with the CA DMV? Thanks in advance!

i believe all you need to do is what you state AND ALSO releasing the car via the "release of liability form" attached to the title or also online (ca dmv site). good luck. make sure you state AS IS on the bill of sale, also...always works better that way.

Do we have to go into the CA DMV to get a new CA title issued or is the signed over pink slip enough to go to the TX DMV?

Signed pink slip should do it.

sign the 2 spots on the bottom of the title- 1 is owner,2nd is in the box for the odometer. I always leave out the dates and miles so the geniuses who work at the DMV or other state office don't screw up and ruin the carfax
