Racing Helmet shop near San Jose CA?
 

I did a search and it did not show anything for the SF Bay area... is there a recommended shop for sourcing a automobile based racing helmet that would meet DE and Autocross for PCA events? Ideally near San Jose... :)

Thanks RollingArt, I have been window shopping at that place last time I was at Sears Point. Very nice shop but a little challenging to get there from San Jose.

Anyone have a place a little closer I could try?

Try some of the motorcycle shops, Cycle Gear, Superbike Performane, Roadrider, .. They can get the road equivalents. I bought mine through Cycle Gear.

Motorcycle shops will carry some helmets that are Snell 2010 rated. That's the latest rating and what's required at track events.

BTW, the bike shops will have helmets rated M2010 not SA2010 (I think that's the designations), but can get the SA helmets for you. However, check with the organization with which you're running, the "M" rated helmet may be OK. The difference in the helmets is the better fire retardation of the SA helmet.

SA/M/K 2015 is now out, but wont be release until Oct of this year. Most DE allow for SA2005 and up.

Correct except for that last part..

- SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not.
- SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.
- SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets aren't street legal)


However, I do NOT have a SA helmet. I just use my motorcycle helmets. All are SNELL rated. They have never really checked, however, I am sure that there are some TDP's that are fairly strict and would check.


What is funny is SCCA Autocross allows for SA or M. HPDE, not so much.

Oh, and if you are driving a Coupe, you can get away with an open face helmet.

People like me who like to cruise around with the top down? We HAVE to use full face. Fine with me, since beanies aren't my style.
