Default Road conditions/Weather FYI New Mexico

There has been heavy rains and some flooding here in the Southwest corner of New Mexico. There are some great driving roads out here, so I thought I'd give a heads up.

Mile marker 1 - 4 on HWY 174 through Glenwood NM (area around Catwalk National Monument) is closed, due to heavy flooding and water on the roads. You have to cross a creek to get to Catwalk, that's fully running (6+ in of water). The Catwalk is closed, due to destruction of the walk way up the canyon.

Mile marker 10 - 25 on HWY 159, around and through Mogollon, NM is closed. The creek that runs through Mogollon, and along 159, flooded with a 10ft wall of water, washing away the road and a large part of the town. One person is confirmed dead. The road is closed until further notice.

NM 152 (through the black range - Hillsboro, Kingston) and NM 15 (Pinos Altos, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Lake Roberts) are open, and presumed to have debris on the road due to heavy rains in the area. The rains come generally in the afternoon, well announced, and last into the night.

NMroads.com can give you all the information you need for roads in New Mexico. There are a few closures around the Gila Wilderness (southern portion mostly). Plan accordingly!
