LAKEVILLE, Conn. (July 5, 2013)- Continuing a remarkable 2013 season for Global Motorsports Group (GMG), today’s debut race for the all-new Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series saw team drivers Lee Davis and Ryan Eversley take a commanding victory in Lime Rock Park.

“Wow, we couldn’t have asked for a better debut,” stated team owner James Sofronas. “Lee, Ryan and the whole No. 33 Luna-C Racing crew did an outstanding job all week getting this program ready, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the results. This program came together relatively late, but no one on the team missed a step and today’s victory is a sign of that. This is a fantastic series and we couldn’t be more honored to be the very first team to win.”
Driving the No. 33 Luna-C Racing Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, driver Lee Davis was off to a solid start during the opening minutes of the race. With a mandatory pit stop for all cars, Davis and teammate Ryan Eversley elected to split duties during the race, continuing their tradition that was built out of endurance racing. With Davis knowing his job was to simply maintain the car and drive a steady pace, the Georgia resident performed flawlessly, coming in prior to the halfway point to hand the car over to his long-time co-driver. From then on, the finishing duties fell to Eversley. Coming out of the pits with nearly a 30-second gap to make up as a result of the pit stops, Ryan performed masterfully, eventually taking the lead and never looking back. It was the sort of drive you’d expect from a multi-time GRAND-AM and Pirelli World Challenge winner, with Davis and Eversley making it clear that they’re looking for the same performance in tomorrow’s second round.

“It was really awesome to win the first-ever North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo race,” stated Eversley. “Lamborghini of Beverly Hills and GMG did a great job putting this program together, and I’m especially proud of my co-driver, Lee Davis. He drove against some very good drivers, and kept us in contention for the win the whole time. At the end it seemed like everyone else was slowing, but we just kept getting faster and faster, and ultimately we took the victory. It’s a special feeling and I can’t thank everyone at Luna-C Clothing and Lamborghini of Beverly Hills enough for making this happen.”
Davis shared Eversley’s excitement in being the series’ debut winner. “It’s just fantastic,” exclaimed Davis. “The car is incredible to drive. It’s amazing that this program came together so late, because you’d never know it the way everything operated so smoothly. GMG ran a flawless program, the car was absolutely perfect, and the attention to hospitality and driver comfort was second to none. I have to thank everyone at Lamborghini of Beverly Hills and Luna-C Clothing for the opportunity as well as, of course, GMG for such a great car.”

Not to be outdone, GMG regular Alex Welch also had a victory during today’s inaugural round, taking first in the Gentlemen category. Beyond the race for the overall victory, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series also dedicates a category within the race to drivers who earn their income beyond professional driving. Welch, who is also racing this weekend in the Pirelli World Challenge, finished fourth overall in his No. 80 Spyder/Lasso machine.

“It’s been a busy day,” stated Welch. “We decided only this morning to run this program, so to jump in and take a victory in class is pretty cool. The guys at GMG always do a great job, and today is proof of that. I really enjoy this series and look forward to tomorrow.”

Finally, the No. 69 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills / O’Gara Coach Company would take eighth overall. Sharing duties in the car, drivers Parris Mullins and Tom O’Gara drove a steady pace to run a drama-free stint.

“I’m pretty happy with our debut,” stated Mullins. “The racing is really competitive here so it’s good to take a top 10, and I’m really enjoying the experience so far. GMG has done a great job, and I’m happy to be part of a winning team.”

For Tom O’Gara, a similar enjoyment was shared. “It was a lot of fun out there,” stated the Southern Californian. “This series puts a lot of attention into creating an all-encompassing experience, and we’ve felt very well taken care of the entire time. Taking eighth cleanly was fun and hopefully tomorrow will be even better.”

With the second round only a day away, there’s little rest for the GMG team as they prepare for Round Two. Running double-header weekends in both the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series as well as the Pirelli World Challenge, the team is proving just how strong it is in both variety and depth.
