I-5 speed traps?
 

Anybody know any specific locations on I-5 (northbound or southbound) where they run ongoing speed traps?

I got a ticket a few days ago just south of the Firebaugh exit (coming north) for 91 in a 75.

Also, just wondering whether they ever run speed traps at night? I'm not even sure whether radar functions at night, but I don't ever recall seeing anyone being pulled over on I-5 in the middle of the night.

radar works at night - trust me

Where I live in Colorado there are safety concerns that keep motorcycle cops from running speed enforcement at night. It's also possible that laser guns that can normally pick out an individual Porsche in traffic are confused at night by all the infrared emitting headlights. Road & Track did a test years ago and found some cars' lighting had enough IR in the spectrum to do this - legal jamming but don't count on it working today!

Sometimes there are CHP set up on the northbound transition from the 5 to the 405.
Specifically, there's a truck bypass also used by cars that goes off to the right side.
Usually it's a quicker route around the passenger car traffic, but CHP hides behind the overpass.

I've also never seen radar being used at night.
CHP is really tame compared to other state troopers, trust me on that one. :)

There is usually enforcement at the Gorman area and just as your coming up the hill after Magic Mountain heading North. Doesnt help that there is a CHP station right after Magic Mountain either.
