Hi Karl,

I'm new to the rennlist and wanted to know what this event is all about.
Will there be track time involved? Always wanted to do the corkscrew in a car.

Thanks
mike

CORRECTION: Clearly when I said you can't drive, I was way wrong...

----- Original post ------------------------------------------------

No, you don't drive. But you get to see some amazing things, including on track. At one point (during 'IV' in 2011) I suffered cognitive lock-up...

I was standing in the paddock and there were 917s leading away from me in 3x different directions and I quite literally froze because I couldn't figure out which direction to go.

It was astounding.

And it's not just the cars. Walking around I (swear I) saw Derek Bell, Hurley Haywood, Brian Redman, Alwin Springer, etc., just chatting away with folks.

Karl.

Karl,

thanks for the info, sounds like a blast with tons of eye candy.
The drive up from LA will be epic as well. I know some really great roads to take up.

Take care
mike

Rooms in the area sure got scarce in a hurry.

Check that. So far ahead that most hotels don't have room rates. Sorry

Not only can you get up to around 80 on the parade lap the group will tend to bunch up before the corkscrew, allowing drivers to take off one at a time and go into it at a higher rate of speed than the rest of the lap.

So you do get to experience the sensation of dropping down through it, although I would absolutely not recommend taking it at full race speed, or even 90%.

They also bunch up and do the same thing for the front straight.

Hey guys, this sounds like a great event. So to be clear, do you need to buy a corral pass package to be entitled to participate in the parade on the track? Is the parade a separate ticket on top of the $175 for the 4 day pass and corral parking? And does the parade happen every day (Thurs - Sun) or only a specific day?

Thanks

I'll Look into It

I'm going to look into this further to see if I can get you any specifics -- my memory is a little hazy from the past 3 Reunions I've been to (since each Reunion is 2-3 years apart from the next one).

Before I begin my research by picking other people's brains, though, let me just say that I looked back at all of the PDFs of my ticket-purchasing paperwork for those past Reunions.

I didn't see any actual itemized purchases made for the Parade Laps when buying the tickets and Corral passes -- which leads me to believe purchases are not necessary.

I think we signed up for free in PCA's Porscheplatz tent for the Laps (remaining available slots permitting, of course).

When we did sign up, I recall that we had to produce valid Vehicle Registration (which also shows that the vehicle is a Porsche since the Parade Laps were Porsches only, at least during previous Reunions). And you had to produce Proof of Insurance too, of course.

So I'm surmising that you don't have to be signed up for the Corrals to participate. I'm thinking that you only need to register (for free, I'm almost certain) with Porscheplatz to obtain the sticker to place on your windshield in order to be able to queue up with everyone else to run on track.

I also recall that the Parade Laps were run each and every day of each Reunion -- but only during the track's lunchtime break.

In any case, let me see if I can nail down some hard, factual specifics for you. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Karl, you're welcome! Got my tix, Corral pass and -- most important -- lodging too.

If you or anyone else hasn't done so yet, make sure you secure your lodging ASAP because rooms sell out fast -- as well as rapidly escalate in price -- as time goes on.

Granted, many hotels / motels haven't yet posted rates since PRR VI is a year away.

But keep checking through the usual travel sites or at the following site which specializes in the lodging on the Monterey Peninsula:

http://www.resort2me.com/

See everyone there!

Larry
