1980 Porsche 928 Euro
5 Speed manual 4.5L (M28/09)
Non sunroof
German market imported in 1984
4 owner
Many records
Original gauge cluster in kilometers
Original complete tool kit, Euro first aid kit, spare bulb box, etc.
Fenders were not drilled for marker lights
Rear bumper never had the US DOT humps installed
Runs and drives excellent
Interior is in excellent condition

I've owned the car for a little over two years. I purchased it from Lawrenceville, GA...records indicate it was previously in NC and NY.

Beautiful interior with black pinstripe velour. No signs of wear on any of the seats, dash and pod are crack free. Good carpet appears to have been covered by all weather mats since new. Glass all original, one small chip in windshield.

Engine starts right up and runs great. Zero battery drain, I've had it sit for over a month and never had an issue starting. Recent oil change. Minor engine oil leak believed to be the pan gasket, but it's not too bad. Transmission shifts well for the model, if you're not trying to speed shift it goes through the gears smoothly. Fresh Redline trans oil. Clutch was replaced by the previous owner. I installed a new brake master cylinder and fluid and the car stops firmly and without issue. I had 16" phone dials refinished in gunmetal grey and new BFG Sport Comp 2 tires installed in January 2015. The original 15" phone dials are also included with good tread but old tires. The timing belt has less than 5000 miles but it was done over 12 years ago. The engine is non-interference so I haven't felt the need to replace it. Both lower ball joints and the left tie rod were recently replaced and an alignment was performed. I added a Borla exhaust and the original is also included. It came with sealed beam headlights which I replaced with the correct H4s. The smog pump seized up so I removed the system (included) and replaced the fan belt. AC blows cold. Everything works. Clock, horn, gauges, locks, windows, lights, etc all work properly.

The paint is shiny except for the rear bumper where it has started to fade and flake. The rub strips show a similar condition, it seems the paint didn't agree with the urethane.

Basically I've appreciated this car for being a pure representation of what the 928 was originally meant to be. No spoilers, no sunroof, no headlight squirters, no rear bumper warts. Being a Euro it has mechanical fuel injection and no cat. More power and less weight than a comparable US model. It's been extremely reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. The only reason I'm selling is that I got a deal on a '91 GT that I just couldn't pass up.

Quick drive through the gears:

Car is now live on BaT: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-porsche-928-2/

Thanks,
George

Was the caddy in the background intentional? Interesting contrast. Super cool car. The 928...not the caddy.

Thanks! I'm not really familiar with CA emissions laws...if a new smog pump were installed thus bringing the car to original spec, could it be registered? Or does the fact that it's a grey market import ruin any chance of that?

Ha nope the Caddy was just a photo bomb. I often photograph cars in that lot on weekends, but on weekdays you end up with background debris. :roflmao:

Thanks for the compliment.
