My delivery agent hinted break-in is much of an American concern and his general recommendation was to be mindful of red line for the first 500km (not miles), during which exercise the engine through most of the band, shift often and subject it to various regimes and loads (i.e. not 500km worth of cruise control, etc.). I think with modern engines break-in is a very different animal compared to the ol' times

Even now, The M2's launch control and over boost are only enabled after the 2000km / 1200m break-in service, globally. Why would that be the case if BMW didn't care about a proper break-in procedure?
