1987 944 Spec race / track car. Street legal, and titled and insured.

I bought this car to start my track day / race career about 6 months ago, but since then I have only managed to get it to the track once. I love it and enjoy driving it but my garage is overflowing and something has to go.

The previous owner spent 2 years completing the build with lots of attention to detail. Interior stripped down to the bare metal, NASCAR cage welded in, and painted fleet white. Sunroof panel welded in, nice paint and body (no dents or scratches). Gutted doors. Headlight motor removed, brackets in place to hold lights in the up or down position.

Stock wiring harness was trashed and the car was completely re-wired with marine grade wire, 40 amp switches and custom fuse block. Completely set up and ready for track days, DE, Autocross. Also ready to spec race, just needs logbook. (window net tabs need to be welded in first).

Here's the specs:

Recently rebuilt 2.5l n/a by Black Forest Racing. Less than 150 miles on the rebuilt engine. Mostly street miles, one DE day at Homestead.
Lindsey racing cross drilled crank.
New vacuum lines
New fuel lines
Sach spring centered clutch
Magnaflow muffler. no cat.
De-powered steering rack.
Momo steering wheel (quick disconnect)
Custom Dash
Autometer gauges, oil temp, water temp, fuel gauge, voltage, oil pressure.
Autometer shift light
Autometer low oil pressure warning light
Speedhut GPS Speedometer. Shows mileage since rebuild
1.75x.050" nascar style roll cage
Sparco Pro 2000 seats. On sliders. Seats are current.
Heat reflective floor mat on drivers side.
Schroth 6pt seat belts (stamped DEC 2017)
SFI roll bar padding
Koni yellows, camber plates
2nd set of phone dials with hoosier slicks
Stainless steel brake lines
Turbo sway bars front and rear.
Window net needs installation, shoulder net also needs to be installed.
Headlight, horn, blinkers, reverse lights all work.
Brand new Fire Bottle System

Some spares include:

New rear rotors in a box.
Complete set of Hawk pads front and rear
New unopened can ATF gold
Stock airbox
misc hardware

Car runs great and is very clean. I had my instructor drive it at the DE, he says it's set up great. I really enjoy this car and hate to sell it but family has to come first. PPI welcome of course.

This is the original owner's album detailing the build:

I will take some more pics today and get them posted.

SOLD

Deal fell through, car is back for sale!

PPI from Gulf Performance, email me for a copy.

All minor items, re-routing of certain wires, battery cables and clutch hose could use replacing. Some vacuum hoses need cleaning up and ignition wires are old, but still functional.

Strong compressions, solid cage, dates all current on seats and belts.

Vinny at Gulf Performance is the guy to speak to.

I'll post some photos of the items when I get back in town in a couple weeks.

Here's the PPI that the previous buyer had done. Following is some photos of some of the "items" that were listed.

You might notice that some of the items are not "items" at all, for a race car. Such as "hood release wrong" (It's just a cable with a handle), or "Headlight mechanism removed" (The car has brackets that allow the headlights to be positioned either up or down).

All and all I think it's a pretty good PPI for a 20 year old race car. The big pars are all solid- cage, seats and belts all current, new fire bottle, good compressions, etc.

Some of the items are what I would consider "personal preference" items of the builder / owner- such as the oil pressure setup, or the fuel lines (see photo). I prefer new wires and new fuel lines to factory used parts- but that's just me.

Vinny at Gulf Performance did bring up some good points- One of the items is "injector harness taped". It hasn't been spliced, but I guess the PO wrapped it with electrical tape. Also the routing of some of the wires he didn't care for. If the injectors lose power from a broken wire, the car will not run. I bought a new Injector Harness from Linsey Racing, but I haven't had time to install it yet. The loose / unsecured hoses and airflow sensor are mostly a result of the removal of the stock air box- I am currently running a pod filter. Most of that stuff is secured to the stock air box assembly, which I have, should the new owner care to install it and secure everything to it. Again a personal preference item.

Some items I will be correcting myself as time allows, some I already fixed, like the brake line routing and tightening up the steering column at the firewall.

Regarding the motor mounts, I got a second opinion from Ian at 944 online, he seems to feel the motor mounts are fine, they are the good quality ones and they are not broken or leaking.

Also included some photos of the oil they found, gotta be careful with those oil changes. How the bolt disappeared from the injector rail is a mystery, but there's one there now

Anyway, for a backyard mechanic to finish correcting these items would probably take a whole saturday, so in light of that and the fact that I need garage space, I've dropped the price to $9,500.

Secondary PPI's welcome of course.

Some updates, been working on the car.

Installed new:

Lindsey racing injector harness
New fuel line (Regulator to rail, old one was kinked)
New ignition wires
New crank sensor (old one: connectors were cracked)
General wiring cleanup
Interior and glass cleaning

On the agenda for next week- drop exhaust and have joints welded (Lindsey racing cat delete pipe is clamped in), new radiator mounts.

Some photos of the latest work:
