'99 Porsche C2 Race/DE Car
Year: 1999
Make: Porsche
Model: 911
Cont. Porsche Models: 996
Mileage (numbers only please): 73000
Options (Please check ALL which apply): Antilock Brakes
Color: White
Price (no $ sign please): $31000
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (Region): Midwestern
Body Style: Coupe
Transmission Type: Manual - 5 speed
2 or 4 Wheel Drive?: 2 Wheel Drive
Engine Type: Fuel Injection
Stereo System: None
Since IÂ’m not sure how familiar you are with the 996, I will put what the upgrade costs new just for the parts in parenthesis and any notes that might be helpful. So hereÂ’s what IÂ’d include for $31K:
Power:
The standard 3.4L makes 245hp at the rear wheels. The following upgrades get this one to 265rwhp:
Underdrive pulley ($175)
Fabspeed Headers ($1600)
Magnaflow Custom Exhaust ($500)
Reliability:
The M96 has some inherit reliability issues with oiling and the famous Intermediate Shaft Bearing. This car had itÂ’s engine replaced in Â’06 with a factory crate engine that had all of the updates including a much larger single row IMSB which all but solves the problem. In addition, this engine has:
X51 oil kit for cylinder 4,5,6 ($3500)
X51 Oil sump Baffle ($245) – prevents oil starvation at high g’s when the oil moves away from the oil pickup
Direct Oil Feed ($800) – feeds oil to the IMSB for better lubrication.
LN Engineering Spin-on Filter adapter ($150)– Allows use of oil filters that do not have a bypass, preventing unfiltered oil from being used in the engine
Magnetic drain plug ($25)
Transmission – Transmission was refreshed 7 track days ago and a new OS Gikken LSD was installed ($3500)
Safety:
Welded roll cage by Innovative Autowerks ($9400 for the cage, interior paint, Lexan front and rear, and replacing sunroof with GT3 skin)
EFS Fire Suppression System ($550) – This is an older model that does not require inspection but should probably be upgraded.
Recaro Pro Racer Hans SPG ($1499)
Sparco Profi II Harnesses – Drivers side good until 2021, passenger is for DE only and out of date.
Momo Detachable Steering wheel with quick connect ($500)
Side window net
Weight Reduction – 2520 lbs!:
Stripped interior
Opened wiring harnesses and clipped out every wire that doesnÂ’t make it go, stop or turn
Relocated immobilizer to under the dash. Previously under passengers seat and notorious for getting wet and immobilizing the car
Fiberglass Hood ($600)
Headlight delete covers ($200)
Aerocatch Hood Latches ($100)
GT3 roof skin
Hollowed out doors
Lexan windows all the way around
New Battery Tender 3.5lbs Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery ($200)
AC and Heater delete including all hoses and lines
Windshield wiper delete (rain-x and anti-fog work amazingly well on Lexan)
Bumper support removal
Front and Rear Motorsport retractable toe hooks ($250)
Suspension:
This is where IÂ’ve put the most time and money as itÂ’s really where the magic happens
JIC Adjustable(1-way) Coilovers ($2000) - The work very well but if you can afford the upgrade to the JRZ's below I highly recommend it.
Tarret Rear Droplink Bracket – ($250)
GT3 Sway Front and Rear Adjustable sway bars ( $1100)
Tarett Front adjustable drop links ($225)
Rear adjustable drop links ($175)
GT3 Lower control arms with solid thrust bushing and monoball subframe mounts ($2750) –
GMG Front Adjustable Thrust Arms ($900) – These are ridiculously expensive but they are very nice for adjusting caster for fitting wider tires
New Tarett Rear Toe Control Arms ($400)
GMG Rear Upper Control Arms ($1050) – again, the GMG links are priciey but they are the best you can buy
Solid Rear Subframe Busings ($400)
New Wevo semi-solid engine mounts ($300)
Other:
Numeric Shifter ($695)
Getty SP996 Wing ($1900)
Issues/Notes:
There is a small oil leak from the 4,5,6 variocam cover. It came this way and has not gotten any worse. It amount to 4-5 drops after a hard session and does not move the dipstick between oil changes.
The front bumper and rear bumper are pretty banged up and zip tied on. I've found this to be the quickest way to get them on and off for trackside maintenance
One interesting thing is the 996 shares the entire front end with the Boxster. Anything that they have in common you can find for a fraction of the 996 prices.
Optional Upgrades (not included in price):
$3800 - JRZ Cup 3-way adjustable Shocks with remotes ($12k) – The cup shocks are more heavy-duty but the rears are too short. So I custom fabbed an aluminum spacer to extend them and they work very well. They have 6 track days on them since I had them rebuilt. Includes new Eibach springs, Tarret Camber Plates, and Tarret Rear Monoball mounts.
$2200 - Data/Video – AIM MXS with Smartycam HD ($3300)
$500 - 1 set of 17” Hoosier rain wheels/tires ($1200)
$1000 - 1 set of MY02 track wheels – ($5000 through Porsche)
$12,000 - Enclosed trailer with tire rack and full cabinetry
$1400 - Spares package - ABS, brake booster, master cylinder, radiators, GT3 LCA, thrust arm, tie rod, wheel bearing, etc...

Hi Scott! I can't believe it either. But business is down and I need to free up some cash. The silver '99 996 with the Jake Raby 3.8L may need to go pretty soon as well. But I've had an absolute blast with them and they won't be the last Porsches I own.
