I have the S5500 that came with the synthetic rope and the fairlead looks the same as the one you purchased.

Any reason this $65 rope from AMAZ is no good? It's 5ft short, but I don't need all 55'

Or this 100 foot for $100 which I can shorten?
I bought a 50x1/4" Dyneema rope from amazon. It was a quality bit of kit, retrofitted easily on a S5000 winch. It needs to be larger in diameter than the cable that came with your winch, so length is limited by how much will fit on the spool.

Those will likely work. As long as you never get close to unreeling it, the tail design is not that important, it's not meant to hold a load, it's just mean to make it easy to install.

Any reason why you are recommending a size increase when going to synthetic instead of a 1 for 1 (IIRC S5000 had 1/4" steel cable)? Isn't the (breaking) strength the more important consideration.

You know, I don't know what I was thinking when I said that. You're correct. Breaking strength is what really matters on diameter selection.

Superwinch specifies the same diameter and length rope whether steel or synthetic for the S5500 and S7500.

I would contact Superwinch directly and get the direct replacement rope from them. Then you know it will work well. I'm sure you can get good rope from many sources, but the prices seem to be similar to the OEM prices, you may as well get a rope that you know will work well.

You are going to really enjoy this set up!

Unfortunately, Superwinch is out of stock on that rope and is not replenishing due to discontinuance of that model. I was not able to find stock anywhere (other than a few ebay/AMAZ sellers price gouging).

Wow, I am amazed that they are discontinuing this model, it is fairly new.

When I order the synthetic rope, will I need another hook or can I use the one currently on the OEM steel rope?

1) Which rope? You listed 2 of different length.
2) Does the hook on your steel cable appear to be removable, usable for reinstallation?

Answer those and you'll have your answer.
