I just switched to a Featherlite trailer which is solid deck. I use rennline front and rear tiedown points on the 997.2, but with the solid deck, I don't think I'll be able to get to the rear points easily. Especially with a hot engine and exhaust. Thus, I've seen some nice padded straps that go through the wheels and attach to the ratchet straps. Can someone recommend a particular model.

I use the rennline ratchet straps.

I like MAC's. They recommend 40-44 inch length for wheel straps. They also sell a fleece protector for the wheel strap.

Length of strap can vary but at the minimum should be 2 x tire width + 2 x sidewall + a little extra to attach to the rings comfortably.

Or you can buy the straps that are designed to go back to themselves and don't need axle straps. I believe Mac's has them.

Seems like the complete MAC assembly designed to hook back on itself is $45 while the wheel strap with fleece sleeve is about $30, not much price difference.

Wondering if the quality is any different?

Also, my Rennline straps have hooks on the end but no mechanism to lock a ring into the hook - they rely on tension. I see the macs lock in; any worries with the rennline?

Thats 1x for the MAC and 4x for the Apex. In my math that is $180 vs $30.

I was comparing MAC to MAC. Yup, the Apex axle straps are much less expensive - although the protective sleeve looks much smaller. Will need to check it out.

I have the Apex ones and the sleeve is long enough (and then some) to protect the wheel. I'm not concerned with the sleeve not covering all of the side wall

Has the argument that wheel straps can alter alignment been thoroughly debunked? I use wheel nets but wheel straps would be easier.
