981/718 Cayman fit on a Trailex CT-7541
Title pretty much says it all. Have an old Featherlight now and it’s time to pass it on to the next owner. Since I’ve downsized from the 2500 Diesel I would like to drop some trailer weight. I had a CT-7541 years ago and my 6GT3 would fit just.

I have a GT4 and my trailer is the CT-8045. When the car is loaded I would estimate that I have about 4 inches of clearance on each side of the rear wheels (I have a storage box and spare on the sides of the trailer mounted behind the trailer axles). According to Trailex's website the 7041 is 5 inches narrower (75 inches vs 80 inches), and according to Porsche's specs the 718 S is 70.9 inches wide ("without mirrors") and the GT4 is 71.5 inches wide, so very similar in terms of width. I use an electric winch to load the car and that makes it easier to place the car more precisely on the trailer. If I did not use the winch, I don't think I would feel all that comfortable loading without some serious practice. Take away five inches of width and there is very little margin for error, especially if you have a storage box or a spare mounted to the side of the trailer behind the trailer axles. IMO the 8045 is the way to go unless you are loading an older car that is not as wide as the cars you are looking at.

Just remember also that the longer trailer will give you more flexibility on placing the car fore and aft on the trailer, which can affect tongue weight and strap angle. This can be an issue particularly if you want to cross the rear straps like me and have an electric winch or a battery mounted in the front of the trailer, or tire rack, and want to move the car back as far as possible to keep the tongue weight down. You need to be careful that the strap angle is safe (i.e., the straps will still stop the car if you need to hit the brakes hard).

I've got a 981 Cayman that I haul with a CT-7541 that has a tire rack, manual winch and nose shield. It's a cozy fit, but works fine. Agree with previous poster that the side to side placement is key.....not much room for error, so always have a spotter to get you centered. Crossed straps work fine.

Thanks for the replys with real world experience. You have confirmed what I expected that the 7541 would work but be really snug. Being as I am towing with a Chevy Colorado and tongue weight is very touchy, I will go with the 8045 to be able to get the proper tongue weight.
