Default Roof top A/C

I'm looking into adding a rooftop A/C unit for the hotter summer days. I have a 24 foot ATC, not insulated. My generator is a 3500 watt so should power the 13.5 k units easily.

Does anybody have experience with either the Coleman Mach 8 low profile 13.5k BTU or Dometic 13.5k low profile units?

No experience with those 2, but I bought the advent 15000 for my 24' ATC, it works well, runs off a 3500W generator, and has heat as well, enough to take the nip out of those 50-60 degree mornings. And it can be had for less than those other 2 😃

Insulate the ceiling at the very least. I did mine by myself. It took about 8 hours total and it was cheap. It made a big difference.

While I love having air con, I really object to the noise. In fact, folks don’t like sitting in my trailer because it’s so loud when the air con is running. Now that I have a radio in my car, I’ve taken to simply leaving my ear buds in. Much nicer and makes for a more relaxing environment between races.

Does anyone have a roof top AC unit that works well and isn't too loud?

No one complains about how loud mine is when they're sitting inside and it's 68 degrees, 90+ degrees outside. Yeah the fan and unit are right there, so it's more like having a window unit versus central air, but it's not like we are yelling at each other to be heard.

our current one uses 2 coleman 15K units. U hardly hear anything outside trailer (we also have Honda quiet generator). Inside you just hear fan.

Do you know which Coleman unit you have? The Mach 8 is the low profile which has a reputation for being very noisy, The Mach 3 is very high-profile. The Mach 10 seems to be a good compromise but I cannot find any reviews of anybody that is using one.

I just installed the Mach 8 ultra low profile in my 28' ATC (non-insulated). As @Viperbob1 said, inside all you hear is the fan blowing. If it gets noisy, lower the fan speed.

It's too bad I didn't bring my truck/trailer to NJMP yesterday, you could have listened to the setup. Nice black Cummins you have

ATC makes the install super easy since there is a quick disconnect terminal in the roof for power. The hardest part is scraping off the old waterproofing material and hauling the heavy unit on the roof (2 person job)

When I ordered my trailer, the salesperson recommended that I delete the roof vents. I did pre-wire and brace for AC but now I have to cut the hole myself. Won't have to deal with old waterproofing. The electrical box on the ceiling is within the braced area and I will use the aluminum frame as a guide. Either way, I wish I had put in the one roof vent in the front so I could simply remove it and put the AC over it. Live and learn...
