Default How to store a floor jack

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have suggestions about the best way to store a floor jack in your trailer?

Thanks,

I’m no expert by far, but I store my jack flat on the basis that the oil/fluid might seep out if it’s not flat

There was a thread on here a while back where someone’s jack failed due to storing upright. The seals dried up and required a rebuild. I’m trying to find a way to secure it flat that works well.

Are you talking long term storage or in the trailer? No way anything is going to dry up and/or fail by being in the trailer for a few hours to a day.......

Longer term - just want to leave it in there.

FWIW: I have used the PitPal jack in a pouch upright storage with my jack for over 5 years. It never comes out of the trailer. Survives the coldest winters and have never had a seal fail. As it is a $125 Northern Tool special I figure I got my money's worth out of the jack should it fail. The pouch is perfect. Gets the jack out of the way and is super easy. Nothing to tie down.

Which direction do you store it? Down or up? Many jack cylinders are horizontal and they convert horizontal pressure to vertical movement, so if that’s the case, I wonder if storing it up or down makes a difference?

Then again, these cylinders generate thousands of pounds of pressure, so maybe it doesn’t matter either way.

I also use a pouch. Good quality jack lives in it during track season. No problems so far.
Pouch only fits the jack when the jack lifting point is pointing toward floor

As Rick has said, it only fits with the jack lifting point pointed towards the floor.

I push mine under the tire rack and give a few light pumps. Done and stays there.
