Had a 2017 Ford Expedition as a rental "car" today. Awesome...had the extended/stretch model, black with heavily tinted windows, chrome wheels, looked like a politicians car driving around DC. So damn comfortable to drive, and visibility for miles. It had the optional trailer towing package with a built in trailer brake console. It does feel like 365 HP...this puppy up and boogies when you floor it, which I felt compelled to do. I am going to try and talk my wife into it. Get rid of the 06 4.7 Tundra.

It will tow up to 6,000 Lbs without a weight distribution hitch and 9,000 Lbs with one.

Prefer a SUV to a pick up also...............am a little concerned that the smaller ones will not be able to handle the trailer.

Just wanted to share some things I learned about towing over the years. I also got great advice from a friend that owns a trucking company.

Many SUV's and 1/2 ton pickups will "pull" the loads needed with just a bit of headroom. Where things get scary is when the trailer is pushing you. One of the key questions to ask is trailer to vehicle weight. Go to light with the tow vehicle and you'll quickly find you're along for the ride at times.

Bottom line, got F250 3/4 ton

I have a 5,000 Lb truck, 2006 Tundra 4.7 4X4, 175,000 miles (Nearly 0 defects in 13 years), glad to report. I tow an enclosed ATC 20', loaded to about 6,300 Lbs, within Toyota factory specs...Once I have felt that "along with (for) the ride feeling" coming down the "Grapevine" on Interstate 5, not a pleasant feeling by any means. It is also nagging to get 8 to 9 mpg, albeit on 87 octane. It's a TRG 4X4, so it carries extra weight which lowers its tow capacity. When I first bought it, its purpose was to be an all around PU track. Then later, I bought a trailer....towing, get 9 mpg towing at best with a 200 mile range, annoying.

I need to upgrade the truck, need to wait until the sting of spending $$$ on a 6GT3 wears off...this time I'll go 2500 2X4 (Only used the 4X4 feature a few times) , probably diesel...love that Cummins diesel in the Dodge. Want to experience that torque, and the feeling that that you are not towing a very large "brick". The Chevy 2500 gets rave reviews for the engine and especially the tranny.

That Expedition EL (Extended Length), weighs Ford Expedition weight, still weeks my fancy, and that 6071 lb (EL) weight is more in line with what I want.

a full size suv with diesel and air bag leveling suspension would be great, like the old ford expeditions

This seems to be a myth. No need for diesel when towing under 12k lbs (which is most of us here) plus a gas 3/4 would be much friendlier than a diesel when not towing. Here's a good discussion:
