Purchased in 2009 to share with my father as a fun car for weekend use that wouldn't require as much care as our more expensive Porsche. The car has been very carefully maintained by a highly reputable shop whose owner and chief mechanic is the 944 tech officer for the local Porsche Club.
The 2.7L NA engine is a fun iteration of this car. It has more pep than the 2.5, but demonstrates the long-term reliability of the non-turbo models.
The car is in excellent mechanical condition with extensive repair records to prove it. It has a couple exterior cosmetic imperfections. There's a small ding just below the door handle on the driver's side door, maybe slightly smaller in length than the diameter of a dime. And the hood does not sit perfectly flush on the left-hand side of the car. The hood imperfection is not the result of impact damage, and a vehicle history will confirm that the car has never been involved in a collision.
You can see for yourself in the pictures that the cosmetic condition of the car could be described as Very Good (roughly 80 percent, I'd say). It doesn't look like a restored car, but it looks about as good as a car which hasn't had a cosmetic restoration can look.
We've had the timing belt done, and none of the other major components (water pump, etc.) have given any indication of imminent issues. We would gladly provide all eight years of service records, and connect you with our mechanic for a discussion preliminary to purchasing the vehicle.
The car is being sold because my father's eyesight is starting to decline. The price is being kept low because we'd like to see it go to someone who will use it, and who understands these cars.
While we're not available for test drives on an inquiry-only basis, if you intend to buy the car and you put down a deposit, we'll gladly let you inspect and drive it before you pay the balance. We don't want to sell anyone a car that doesn't plainly meet our description.
I am interested in the 944 you have and would love to chat. Please shoot me an email at Made2L4E@aol.com so I can give you my phone number to chat about it. Thanks so much!
Thanks to those who posted, and those who sent PMs. I had a long, transhemispheric travel itinerary, then I took a night of sleep. I'll respond to all inquiries now, on a first-come first-served basis.
Rico, if you have concerns about the post, I hope you'll state them specifically and explicitly, so that I can answer them and potential buyers can benefit from our exchange. People who made inquiries now have my full name and can feel free to look me up online.
All inquiries have been replied to, and I look forward to chatting further with a few of you until the car finds a new home.
You shouldn’t take offense to this. All it means is proceed with caution. Given you description and the price for the car you are being more than fair. It’s kind of a jerk move to post Caveat Emptor. I wouldn’t put up a post like that myself. I believe your being honest and fair. If you lived closer to Massachusetts this car would be sold.
