Default New Taycan teaser

Like the post on the front page says, this is going to be a game changer — not just for Porsche but for electric cars in general.

Yes, except the faster charging will not be available as initially thought:

Porsche marketing is nothing if not astute. They know that the biggest objection won't be range, or performance, or styling....it will be emotion. After all, that's why people buy their cars in the first place. It should be interesting to see how this continues to play out up to September.

My current emotion is disappointment, I didn't expect 100% of the concept car but 75% would have been good. Instead, it looks like 95% Panamera - the only Porsche model I've never owned and didn't sign up for an E-PanameraJr...

I agree. Plus i think the Audi Etron GT is much better looking. Considering they are the same basic car and the Audi will cost 10-20% less, I'll be more inclined to wait and buy the Audi.

However, my biggest hesitation with any non Tesla EV is charging infrastructure. We've had my wife's Model X for 9 months now and as we take it on more road trips I begin to better understand driving long distance and charging away from home. I wouldnt consider driving any non-Tesla EV for away from home at this point (something greater than 100 miles). Superchargers have been incredible, but everything else is spotty and unreliable.

We've tried destination chargers three times on non Tesla chargers and all have been out of order or they wouldn't let us charge. Super chargers have been 100% accessible and reliable. Luckily everywhere we've gone Superchargers were an option.

By "wouldn't let us charge" do you mean the owner of the charger refused you service for some reason? The charger was marked public access but wasn't?

Correct. There seems to be a lot of that. They are destination chargers for customers only.

I want to get a Tesla next year, so last year I decided to check out the local chargers available to me since Tesla only have Superchargers in Pickering and Belleville and I live in between. Found one charger that was listed as public, but when I got there it was on Hydro-Ontario property and the BIG BURLY men having lunch right beside it said it was only for company vehicles, I was not going to argue with them. Next I went up to Durham College/University (yes it is both) only to find the chargers were removed because new construction is going on, I could not get a time-line on when it would be finished. The third one I went to, I could not even find.

Now, PlugShare shows that there a lot of chargers that I can still check out, but my experience is that finding a non-Tesla charger is hit-and-miss, they are there but when you have a low charge in your car you want to know that a working charger exists in the direction that you are going to. The quality of the network matters as much as the size.

Agreed. Porsches, like all performance machines, are an emotional purchase. I can't wait to start seeing these on the road.

To all of you saying “it doesn’t look good” please, just wait until you have seen the actual car, in actual (non-studio) photographs. Then decide. You can’t tell squat from these.

yeah - emotion is going to sell these things and the subtle or not so subtle "re-education" of the American public is starting - they are going to have to undue decades of mis-information - Ford has just posted this

https://www.engadget.com/2019/07/23/...illion-pounds/

and there are some "core Ford customers" talking about how powerful their trucks are and they are shocked, shocked I tell you that a wimpy electric motor can pull this prototype demonstration...

the emotion and the marketing as begun…

frankly I'm more impressed the tow rope/strap held up to the load -
