Awful. So bad I would really consider not buying because of it. Probably wouldn't be that stupid but....

I was starting to get excited about this car until I found out about this idiotic name. Enthusiasm doused instantly.
how on earth did Porsche find a focus group that didn’t start laughing uncontrollably as soon as the proposed name was mentioned??

Taycan is even worse. The starting idea is good - young foal, new age, fresh blood etc. But the execution falls apart. Most English speakers will not read & pronounce it correctly. It's impossible to spell by hearing, especially if it's pronounced incorrectly, but even if correctly. The origin is confusing and sounds like a mixed idiom - it refers to a German horse but it's a Turkish word. Supposedly it's because Porsche wanted to show how it combines Europe and Asia. Well, Turkey is 95% in Asia, with European part being small, distinctive and separated from the rest by water. But a bigger issues is that Turkish culture, although rich, beautiful and amazing, is not a blend of European and Asian cultures but rather more middle-eastern, which neither most European nor most Asian buyers identify with. So that does not quite make sense either. They could have done better. I'll still buy it if it works well.

My first thought upon hearing the name - its not a premium sounding name and makes me think of the Macan. Which then makes me think there's going to be a fully electric Panamera to act as it's bigger brother the same way the Cayenne and the Macan are.

I'm shocked... This is a joke right? Please, let it be a joke...
And no suicide doors either, looks like another version of the Panamera.
"All the good names were taken?"

On one level, I’m glad Porsche didn’t introduce a numerical name for the car - totally not appropriate. Being a global manufacturer I also get that they need to choose names with appeal beyond English, so while it’s a kinda “meh” name, it does nothing to temper my excitement for the car. The silhouette in the teaser video looks tantalizingly close to the concept car curves, especially the front wheel arches and the lip on the rear with single, curving taillight. At this point, the final design is locked in, so we should be seeing images of the road going car soon!

People making fun of names (or those that lose all interest in a CAR because of a name) are a joke in my view. Get used to it or move on if you don't like it. People can name their creations whatever they want. I'd like numerals instead of this name also, doesn't mean I'm losing my mind over it.

I was part of a focus group for the car...three hours of questions, but no mention of the name. Certainly would have voiced my negative opinion had I been asked for it.
