Reactions range from Great News to Yawn... The polarity in the EV vs ICE amongst racing fans is not just a pun, it is a reality.
Racing without the raucous noise and intense scent of burning hydrocarbons?
How can racing exist in the relative silence of electron transfer replacing barely contained explosions as extensions of the primal fire? Will racing continue to draw spectators if they cannot hear, feel and smell the thundering action?
I remember vividly the relative silence of the Audi Turbodiesel's at the 12 hours of Sebring as they dominated their outrageous flame throwing rivals. Very different indeed! Woosh went the Audi's. Boom went the Porsches, Bentleys, Corvettes & Ferraris as the Audi's silently pulled away from their windscreens.
Will racing fans disappear if racing has the aural presence of a slot car race?
Will the faint smell of ozone and burning rubber find appeal in an arena where tyre noise & wind flowing over carefully sculpted control surfaces are the only sounds?
The racing world hangs in the balance.
