Default 987 Spyder takes First in Class in San Diego Region Concours

I drove down to San Diego this weekend and attended the PCA San Diego Region Zone 8 Concours held at Spanish Landing right on the beautiful San Diego harbor. Both gen Spyders were in attendance with my 981 in the Corral/Display only (non-judged) category and Marine Blue's 987 in the judged Ubergang Class.

It was an incredible turn out and the quality of the cars in the judged catagories was truly impressive. This sun-kissed patch of Earth is blessed with probably the highest concentration anywhere of well-preserved and well-maintained P-cars of all generations so the competition at these So Cal concours events is of the highest order. This isn't Kansas, Toto. Better bring your A-game or stay home. Well, Marine Blue did just that snatching First in Class honors!

As luck would have it, my camera was on the fritz so while I don't have any pics from this weekend of Marine Blue's winning car, I do have these photos from a prior event and you will just have to trust me: Afshin's car looked just as good this weekend, if not better.

Hats off to the San Diego Region for hosting such a stellar event. Everyone I met was friendly and knowledgable and welcomed this interloper from Orange County with open arms. Much thanks for the hospitality guys!

Thanks guys! I barely managed a pic of my car which was for some reason or another placed in the special categories section even though I was judged in Ubergang. As a note, Ubergang class includes all Boxsters, Caymans and 991's. The engines are not judged since they are not readily accessible. They also don't judge the undercarriage although some judges do look at the wheel wells which was the case for this show.

I did manage to snap off some pics of two stunning Spyders in attendance although one (Beck Spyder) is technically not real.

Lunch break after heading up one canyon and across the Peak to Peak, old one hanging tough with the new one.

I came across not one, but two EXTREMELY rare 987 Spyders equipped with options rarely found on these cars.

The first one is actually for sale:

The second comes with the elusive PCP option which I understand was only available on cars in the Pacific Northwest:

LOL! What a hoot! Love the "Power convertible top". You know, this dealer may not have a clue what he has and sell this off and a HUGE discount!! Whoo hoo!

^^^^^ I was thinking the exact same thing, Zeus. Maybe they don't have a clue

And yet they look to be a decent size dealer with numerous exotics for sale, including several high-end P-cars. They should certainly know better

Default Didn't notice the rock darn it! . . . . . .

Otherwise it's just another pretty Spyder blowing in the NorCal wind. RAL 7015 (Porsche code Y97) slate grey PTS. From what I've seen and heard thru Rennlist it's the only one in North America.

May go back and re-shoot the setting (without the rock in view and with the windows down) because I didn't even realize all the yellow elements were in play until I got home and looked at the pics.

Beautiful car! Had the good fortune to see slate grey in person on an older 911. Great color

Thanks for compliments on the color! I'm pretty pleased with the results myself particularly since I had not seen a Porsche in that color in the metal before I ordered this one.

Batching up a group of PTS Spyders in NorCal area for a photo opp should make for a memorable submission to one or more of the Porsche media weblinks if nothing else. Or even a batch/index group shot of all the silver/grey/rhodium, etc. color variants of Spyders including PTS. So I'm game if there's a really good photo opp in the offing.
