987 Spyder Brake Upgrade?

has anyone upgraded the brakes on their 987 Spyder? If so, can you please share what you did and if you're happy with the upgrade?

Vision motorsports has a kit that upgrades your front calipers to 6 pot 996 GT3 calipers. Looks oem, cheaper than aftermarket, and it works well!!

Some have upgraded the Master Cylinder to that of a GT3. Easy swap and increases the pressure on the calipers.

Yeah, i keep hearing about the GT3 master cylinder. Does it make a difference to the braking performance or just the pedal response?

Just pedal travel

I went the expensive upgrade and installed PCCB's and I could not be happier . The brakes are nothing short of FANTASTIC. No brake dust, superb stopping with great feel AND by reducing unsprung weight the car handles even better not only on spirited cornering (pronounced autocross) but in day to day street driving.

Anyone need a complete set of OEM iron brakes, front and rear off a Spyder? Over 60% wear remaining and includes calipers, pads, rotors, sensors etc.

Are you racing the car? I ask because we raced a Cayman S on the stock brakes for years without issue (other than ABS issues). We did not have heat-related issues until we moved the car to slicks and added downforce. The stock brakes provide as much stopping power and modulation as needed for a non-race application.

If you are having heat-related issues then you can go to a better rotor and hat (e.g., Brembo IndyCar rotor and Wrightwood hat).

Or, as suggested above, go to the Vision / Wrightwood kit that includes 350mm AP Racing rotors, Wrightwood Racing hats, Porsche 996 Cup six piston calipers, and a Wrightwood adapter that allow use with the stock uprights.

You will want to go with the GT3 MC at the same time or the pedal travel will increase 12% due to the larger piston area on the six piston calipers. This is a great modification even without the larger calipers as the it cures (mostly) the mushy feel of the stock MC.

Call Dwain Dement or Roland Tsui at Vision Motorsports - 949.770.2888.

Cheers,

So I've talked to my local Porsche dealer and a local shop and neither know anything about upgrading to the GT3 MS.

Is it a 997 GT3 MS? Are any other mods or equipment needed?

my 986S has this mod, and the braking is insane.

I put the 997 GT3 MC in my 987.2 Boxster S. The feel is *much* more solid - like I used to have in my 6 GT3.

I didn't upgrade the vacuum boost, leaving the 987.2 system in place. The effect of this is that you have to push the pedal substantially harder when on the track to get the same braking force you used to have with the stock setup. After I figured this out, I prefer the new, more-effort arrangement.

For street use IMO you don't have to push harder.

I'm glad I changed the MC.

Here's the one advertised at Suncoast. Its the master cylinder from the ceramic brakes kit. Not sure if this is the same as the one on the GT3

987 PCCB MC and GT3 MC are different. GT3 MC is larger. I upgraded my PCCB MC to GT3 and it made a difference.

As did I. I had PCCB on my Cayman S and didn't do the upgrade and there is a real difference.

Joe, did adding the GT3 MC require any additional parts to upgrade or does it just bolt in?
