Cayman R Diecast Model 1:18 FINALLY!
 

After years of searching, and then “giving up”… a friend sent me a link to SelectionRS with their “featured” Cayman R model! I immediately went to the site and placed the order. That was on Sunday, March 24. To my surprise and delight, the model arrived today via USPS (signature required)! Last time I ordered from SelectionRS was in 2021. The 993 model (also 1:18) took roughly 3 weeks to arrive and came via DHL but had departed France with a different carrier, and was transferred to another carrier prior to DHL taking over. Signature was required, and we carefully tracked the package not wanting to miss delivery. But it was convoluted and we felt lucky it got here as expected.

I don’t know how many they’ve got, but if you have been looking for a decent Cayman R model in Peridot - here’s your chance! I also posted in the Diecast Model thread (page 19, posts 281 & 282), but wanted to share here in the Cayman R specific subforum.

Display case is somewhat unattractive so the car has been removed. The model shows PCCB. Mine had standard brakes with red calipers. Oh well….minor detail. I could probably have it corrected if I want to pursue it.

A few models of cars we’ve enjoyed. The Lambo had “lipstick” red leather with white piping and diamond stitching. The 993 had Chestnut leather interior (reddish-brown) and rear seat delete. The SL55AMG had “berry” interior - a deep red bordering on maroon.

a photo of me driving at the inaugural Indy HPDE! So glad I did it since they’ve recently done away with HPDE events. Had a great time and made some new friends including one with whom I stay in close contact! We shared a garage that weekend.

@andy7777 how do you think the color of the model is, in relation to the “real” Peridot? In living with the model I think the color may be a bit dark. But having sold the car a long time ago, I’m going on memory, and photos. Just curious if you agree, or if you think it’s a realistic example of Peridot. Either way, I’m still very happy with the model.

It's a pretty good approximation, I'll try to get a photo when it's not raining. Whatever, I'm also happy with it. Love the little "garage" box it comes with.

I've just taken delivery of a set of 9A1 Silver Cayman R / Spyder wheels and might as well ask here since you're probably the right person: is the light metal circle around the circumference of the black rims a sacrificial separate rim? Or just an unpainted part?

FWIW the silver rims that just arrived don't have any sacrificial rim.

Jon, the silver Spyder wheels didn't have the rim protector, only the black ones did. I don't know if it's sacrificial, I think the wheels are BBS and they place the rim protectors on some other wheels they sell as aftermarket. I had them on a set of CHR wheels I used on the car.

FWIW I think the wheels look better without these. My car came with silver wheels which I had painted satin black.

The silver “lip” is not a separate rim. It is an unpainted portion of the wheel. I know this because when I bought my car, the dealer sold it with a damaged wheel (discovered after I drove 300+ miles home). My local dealer helped me resolve the issue by “forcing” the selling dealer to pay for a new wheel. All of those wheels were in stock as silver wheels. They needed to have the wheel painted to match the other three. The paint job was pretty close but not “factory-exact”. The width of the unpainted rim was slightly different (wider) than the factory rims. But I was the only one who could detect the difference.

Another factory option was silver (unpainted) wheels (same spoke configuration as the black wheel with silver lip - but without the black paint). I was told all of the wheels in that spoke configuration started as silver, and some were painted black with the unpainted silver lip.

I don’t think the silver lip is “sacrificial”. It’s just an unpainted edge that creates an “accent”. And yes, they were BBS.

Interesting - perhaps BBS were just worried the black would show up kerb scratches much worse than silver (?) Good to know in any case, and I'll just have to keep up my usual practice of extreme paranoia about getting too close to kerbs and not letting anyone else drive the car :D

If it helps quite like the black + rim combo, it helps the wheel not disappear into the wheel well. Might powder coat mine gold or bronze in due course... the car is basalt black and I think would contrast really nicely.
